This year the 100th edition of the Tour de France, starting for the very first time in Corsica is 3,360 km (2,087 miles) in length with 21 stages. The average stage length is 160 km (99 miles) with the longest stage being a monster 242 km (150 miles) on Bastille Day (14 July) including Mont Ventoux. The tour will be tackled by 22 teams and a total of 198 riders.
There are three time trial stages, one team (Stage 4 – Nice) and two individual TT’s, each of 33KM (20 miles). The total amount of climbing is estimated to be a whopping 30,415 metres including 28 categorized climbs.
Ouch, that’s tough and so it’s only appropriate that this month Bike Beans brings you a special Tour challenge that’s, well let’s just say, challenging and tailored towards three key attributes to finishing the Tour – Distance, climbing and Endurance over multiple day.
Distance – All riders who logs more than 208 miles (a tenth of the Tour) will be entered into a random prize draw to win a Bike Beans prize.
Endurance - All riders who log more than 21 rides over the course of the challenge will be entered into a random prize draw to win a Bike Beans prize.
Climbing - The ten individual rides with the most metres climbed that include more than 1,912 metres of climbing (GPS entries only), the equivalent of ascending Mont Ventoux, will be entered into a random prize draw to win a Bike Beans prize.
